We specialize in a variety of training goals to include retriever training, obedience, and shed/scent tracking; and we'll work with you and your best friend to meet your needs.
About Yellow Town K9
It all began with one lone Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Buckers Thump. We had done all the reading and research. Despite the quirks and stubbornness of Chessies, my wife and I agreed that it sounded like just the dog for us. Buck would be my first real gun dog, and I would train him myself.
Boy, was I in for a treat! Buck was stubborn, self reliant and rarely followed commands! But ol' Buck and I stuck with it. Despite my initial lack of knowledge, we learned to trust and forgive one another, and Buck became one of the best hunting dogs a man could ever ask for (even when he demanded an Allsup's burrito at the end of every hunt).
This journey with Buck started me on a path to developing a multi-phased method for training based on... Since then I have trained many retrievers, shed dogs and have trained dogs in obedience and behavior modification.
At Yellow Town K9, we are dedicated to providing expert training in retrieving, shed hunting, obedience and behavior modification. We are passionate about understanding canine behavior and strive to bring out the best in every hunting and companion dog.
Our Training Programs
Retrieving
Started, Seasoned and finished retriever programs.
Our training programs last anywhere from 5 months to a full year depending on your specific needs. The program is divided into six phases designed to incite desire and drive and channel it into discipline and skill.
Each dog will progress through phases at different rates. There is no set time to complete each section of training due to variable learning. Our ultimate goal is to produce a well-trained, responsive dog.
Obedience
Board and train only**
Enroll your retriever in our board and train program for comprehensive obedience training and behavior modification. Our personalized approach ensures that your companion receives focused and effective training, leading to a well-behaved and responsive pet.
Our 2-6 week training includes: Sit, down, here/come command, house manners, place training, door manners and heel training.
Shed/Scent tracking
During this program, your dog will learn to retrieve antlers or find lost game. Our shed hunting/scent tracking program lasts from 1-3 months. If your dog has been through force fetch prior to coming to us the time may be less. Training includes force fetch and hold training which progresses to "find it" and then to getting out in front of the owner and searching for the desired object.
To ensure you're dog's safety, we begin with artificial soft tipped antlers to prevent injury and diversion when your dog is learning to pick up sheds.
